Media cite data from UMaine on overdose statistics
The Mount Desert Islander, Bangor Daily News and WFVX TV (Fox 22 Bangor) cited data from the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Institute at the University of Maine on the rise of reported overdose deaths in Maine. From 2000 to 2010, overdose deaths increased from 60 to 167. Between 2020 and 2022, deaths rose from 504 to 723. The Piscataquis Observer shared the BDN report.
