Description

After completing my Bachelors I went on to work in science education and marine conservation. I spent time working and volunteering on Roanoke Island in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Here I had the chance to teach and advocate for ocean conservation at the state aquarium, and to live it as a Marine Mammal Stranding Responder and a volunteer for the Network of Endangered Sea Turtles. Following this experience I spent 2 years as a Community Conservation Peace Corps Volunteer in Panamá, working with a local community, government agencies, and NGOs to focus on environmental health. We created climate change resilience strategies, reforested former cattle ranches, and focused on the intersection of local leadership and capacity building in an ecological artisan network and an environmental group. Here at the University of Maine I study Marine Policy, which allows me to better explore both the human and ecological dimensions of our marine environment.
