Biography
Jerelle is a Ph.D. student in Dr. Lisa Kerr’s Quantitative Fisheries Research Lab and a NMFS/Sea Grant Population Dynamics Fellow. Her research interests center on fisheries stock assessment and the use of simulation modeling to support sustainable management and address climate-related challenges. Her current work focuses on evaluating status quo and alternative approaches to defining biological reference points in a changing environment, and testing their performance using management strategy evaluation (MSE). Jerelle is also committed to improving how complex scientific results are communicated to stakeholders. She develops interactive tools to help illustrate the implications of alternative management strategies and foster stakeholder understanding.
Her previous research includes quantifying disease drivers in striped bass, examining the effects of increasing natural mortality on biological reference points, conducting MSEs for eastern oysters and ecosystem-based fisheries management, and performing various simulation studies and statistical analyses of fisheries and climate data to inform fisheries decision-making.
