Wild Blueberry Weekend

August 3 @ 8:30 am - 4:00 pm

Whether you’re from Maine or enjoying a Maine getaway, mark your calendar for this (wild) new Maine tradition. Tour wild blueberry farms, pick (and nibble) wild blueberries at select locations, try a new-to-you wild blueberry dish or drink.

Wild Blueberry Weekend is happening this summer in Maine (rain or shine)—how wild you get is totally up to you. Be sure to map out your adventure here.

At the University of Maine’s Blueberry Hill Research Farm activities will be offered on the farm for Wild Blueberry Weekend on Saturday, August 5th. Visit the farm to learn about how wild blueberries are grown and harvested and see climate change, nutrition, water retention, and pest management research projects that are currently being conducted on the farm. University Factsheets on aspects of wild blueberry production will also be available.

Tours will be available from 9am to 12pm.

 – Established in 1946, Blueberry Hill Research Farm is an University of Maine Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station that provides research and extension services for Maine’s wild blueberry growers and the public. Located in Jonesboro, the 40 acre farm supports research projects that study wild blueberry nutrition, water availability, pollination, impacts from and adaptation to climate change, plant physiology and management of weeds, insects and diseases in wild blueberry. The farm is also used for farmer focused educational events such as the annual Blueberry Hill Farm Field Day where farmers are able to connect with each other and researchers showcase the most recent findings about cutting edge wild blueberry production.
