Program Elimination: Romance Languages Major
Title: Program Elimination Proposal for the Undergraduate Major in Romance Languages
Proposer Names: Carlos Villacorta, Dean Emily Haddad, Associate Dean Tim Cole
Proposal Description: The BA in Romance Languages combines requirements in French and Spanish. A BA in Modern Languages that combined requirements in French or Spanish and German was previously discontinued. After the self-study in Modern Languages and Classics and receipt of commentary by the external reviewers in 2020, the department determined that the “combined” majors is a model that simply does not attract student interest, and that it would be better to focus on the Spanish major and minor and the French major and minor instead.
The full proposal was shared with faculty via email. If you are a faculty member and did not receive it, or need it re-sent, please email Glenda Periera and MJ Sedlock.
