Gert Nesin is teacher-leader in residence with the Center for Applied Research on Education and Schools (CARES) in the University of Maine College of Education and Human Development, where she is responsible for facilitating the Rural Teacher Leader Support Network.
Gert’s long-term area of interest and expertise is middle school education. She has held roles as a teacher, principal, college instructor and director of the Middle Level Education Institute. She is currently president of the Maine Association for Middle Level Education. In addition to middle grades education, Gert’s research has examined young adolescent development, integrated curriculum, building community, restorative practices, assessment and math learning.
