Christopher G. White

Mr. White is currently Director of Bands was appointed director of the University of Maine Symphonic Band in 2010.  He has been the Director of Sports Bands since 1994 which include the Pride of Maine Black Bear Marching Band, and the Screamin’ Black Bear Pep Band. From 1992 to 2010 he was the conductor of the University of Maine Concert Band.  Coming to Maine in 1992, bands under his direction have performed throughout New England and across the nation including Louisiana, California and Virginia. Mr. White also teaches or has taught percussion methods, marching techniques, conducting, undergraduate studio percussion, as well as observing student teachers. He has worked in various roles at Maine Summer Youth Music Camp since 1990 and has been the director since 2010 conducting the Symphonic Band.  Chris has conducted the Symphony Band at New England Music Camp in 2012, and 2014 and 2015. From 1988-1992 he was the Band Director and District Music Supervisor of M.S.A.D. #11 in Gardiner, Maine.

Chris received his B.M. in Music Education in 1988 from Ithaca College, studying percussion with Gordon Stout and Bill Molenhof and conducting with Rodney Winther. His M.M. in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Maine in 1994 , studying percussion with Dr. Stuart Marrs and conducting with Professor Curvin Farnham.  Mr White has attended the University of North Texas Conductors Collegium two times 2000, 2002 and 2015 was a Visiting Scholar at the University of North Texas studying with Professor Eugene Corporon and Professor Dennis Fisher. He guest conducted and offered clinics throughout Texas.

Mr. White has guest conducted regionally and nationally and has presented clinics at MMEA conference and local programs. In 2024 Mr. White conducted the MMEA All State Band.   In 2016, Chris was named on of the 50 Directors Who Make a Difference by S B & O magazine. Mr. White has been Vice President for Bands in the MMEA. Chris has played percussion with the Maine State Ballet Orchestra, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and has performed at P.A.S.I.C. with the University of Maine Percussion Ensemble.  Mr. White is a member of C.B.D.N.A.,NAfME , MMEA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Pi Kappa Lambda as well as an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, and is currently faculty adviser to Tau Beta Sigma.
