Gert Nesin

Gert Nesin is lecturer in educational leadership and teacher-leader in residence with the Rural THRIVE project, part of the College of Education and Human Development’s Center for Applied Research on Education and Schools (CARES). She is responsible for facilitating the project’s Rural Teacher Leader Support Network.

Gert’s long-term area of interest and expertise is middle school education. She has held roles as a teacher, principal, college instructor and director of the Middle Level Education Institute. She is currently president of the Maine Association for Middle Level Education. In addition to middle grades education, Gert’s research has examined young adolescent development, integrated curriculum, building community, restorative practices, assessment and math learning.
