Matt Skaves is a small business owner and former investment professional who has taught at the Maine Business School in various roles, including finance and innovation, since 2013. Matt is a passionate educator who puts students and the student experience at the heart of everything he does.

Matt received his MBA from the Maine Business School with a concentration in finance in 2005. Shortly thereafter, he began working as a portfolio manager at Deighan Wealth Advisors in Bangor, Maine. He eventually moved into the role of Chief Investment Officer, a position he also later held at Deighan’s successor firm, Birchbrook. Matt earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder designation in 2011.

For more than 15 years, Matt has co-owned and operated a photography business specializing in weddings and family portraits. He also owns a small consulting business focused on a range of needs, including business appraisals, strategic planning, and branding.

Matt has long been active in the community, serving on a number of nonprofit boards. He is a former board chair of the Maine Seacoast Mission and of the Robinson Ballet. He has served as trustee on the John Bapst Memorial High School Board of Trustees, and he is a non-voting advisory member on the University of Maine System Board of Trustees Investment Committee.
