Important Dates

Feb. 1: Deadline to apply to graduate

To participate in commencement ceremonies, students must apply on MaineStreet by Feb. 1. Visit studentrecords.umaine.edu/graduation for information about requirements and the application process.

March 26: Grad Fair

Purchase your undergraduate or masters/CAS/EdS cap and gown in person during the Grad Fair. Shop for gifts and memorabilia, buy graduation items and announcements, order class rings and purchase a Church Hill Classic Diploma Frame.

FAQS

Tickets are NOT needed for the graduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10. Tickets ARE REQUIRED for the undergraduate commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 11. At this point in time, we cannot announce the total number of tickets available/student. This will be determined after the deadline for apply to graduate on Feb. 1.  Historically, the average number of tickets available/student has been 5 tickets, but that is not a guarantee. Once the initial allotment of tickets has been claimed, a process for requesting additional tickets will be communicated.

Because of ongoing construction within and around Alfond Arena, the May commencement ceremonies will be held at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor rather than at our traditional venue, Alfond Arena. Commencement is our largest and most significant event, drawing over 14,000 attendees each year. We understand the sentimental value of Alfond Arena for many of you. However, the extensive construction activity makes it unsafe to host such a large event there. Approximately 2,700 students are set to graduate, making the Class of 2025 one of the largest in UMaine history. While we explored all possible campus options, Maine’s unpredictable May weather and space constraints led us to choose the Cross Insurance Center, which offers all attendees a safe, comfortable, and memorable experience.

If you opted to attend the May 2025 commencement ceremony when completing your initial graduation application, you should be on the mailing list to receive information regarding tickets and other commencement details. However, if you did not select this option or need to check if you are registered, you can contact the Office of Student Records (um.gradapply@maine.edu) to further inquire about attending the ceremony in May.

Students may purchase regalia starting on March 26 at the Grad Fair at the University of Maine Bookstore and online or in person starting March 27.

The Cross Insurance Center will have accessible seating available at a first come first serve basis for guests with disabilities. Additional information about ADA accommodations will be added to this website in the coming months.

There is ample parking at the Cross Insurance Center all graduates and guests.
