Small Agriculture meets Tech Innovation

Friday, November 2 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

At the Hackerspace in the Memorial Union

The UMaine Hackerspace is exciting to showcase the connection between the Internet of Thing (IoT) and small agriculture in a 2 hour showcase.  Low cost remote agricultural sensors, database management solutions, and apps are beginning to make an impact on small farms.

Come show your work in progress or connect with other researchers, small businesses, DIY’ers and farmers with good ideas to recruit collaborators and network. No registration is needed.

Small farmers and other independent agricultural and agricultural dependent businesses face challenges in their resistance to factory agriculture. So does our environment and our food safety.

To compete, vegetable, livestock, fiber and dairy farms as well as food system entrepreneurs are starting to use localized IoT solutions, apps and hardware tools such as sensors, drones, robotics, to help businesses make more data-driven decisions and improve both production and research operations.
