ACADEMIC ADVENTURES

A solid business education requires more than just excellence in academics. Academic Adventures at the Maine Business School build upon classroom experiences and provide students with enriched opportunities focused on professionalism, career development, and relationship-building.

Bound for Business: Adventure MGT 101

Explore the Maine woods and waterways through the lens of business in this pre-Fall Semester cohort of your Intro to Business course, MGT 101. Learn more about our Bound for Business Trip and how you can sign up.

Experience Business Casually

Held the first week of classes each fall, this event connects students to alumni and business professionals for a casual introduction to business best practices. Gain insight on topics ranging from professional handshakes and interview attire to building your personal brand and crafting a resume, all in a casual setting.

Firm Night

This event in the Buchanan Alumni House on campus brings 10 of Maine’s top accounting organizations under one roof to engage with MBS students. Both private and public accounting firms participate in a panel Q&A and interact with students in info sessions.

Careers in Finance Night

Similar to Firm Night, this event brings financial professionals to campus to discuss career opportunities for finance majors. Many firms accept resumes at this event each year.

Executive Speaker Series

The Executive Speaker Series brings to campus engaging business professionals for guest lectures and presentations. Free for MBS students, this event has brought to campus entrepreneurs from Bissell Brothers Brewing and Bixby & Co chocolates, executives from JCPenney, and policy-makers like Angus King.

MBS Bear Treks

Bear Treks encompass a variety of off-campus day-trips led by MBS faculty. Every fall and spring semester there’s a Bear Trek to explore businesses and interact with working professionals. Past Bear Treks have gone to companies like WEX, Tyler Tech, and Unum. In the Fall, Accounting Bear Treks convey students to Portland and Bangor to participate in accounting firm open houses.

Advisory Board Immersion Day

The Maine Business School Advisory Board consists of 24 alumni and professionals across the United States. These individuals engage with our deans to keep the Maine Business School in the top tier of business schools. Each Spring these influential business people travel to campus for workshops, focus groups, and in-class projects with MBS students. This is an invaluable opportunity to network and learn from successful practitioners.

Internships and Professional Development

The Maine Business School has our own Internship Coordinator who can guide your path to a successful internship experience. We also offer professional development workshops and webinars where you can get resume writing tips, advice on interviewing techniques, and practice networking with your peers and business leaders.
