The town of Byron was incorporated in 1833 and is named for the British poet, Lord Byron. The town is most known for containing the Swift River and Coos Canyon, a popular spot for swimming and panning for gold and other minerals, as well as its proximity to nearby mountains and the Rangeley Lakes region.
