German Language Courses

Exchange students are required to attend the preparatory German intensive course in the beginning of each semester offered during orientation. German classes during the semester are building up on the intensive course which is also containing a knowledge test in the beginning and an examination at the end. Credits are also given to the intensive course.

Estimated budget for a semester at Aalen University.

Exchange students are required to pay an administrative fee of 39 euro at the beginning of the semester which is for the German “Studentenwerk”, the national Student Association.

Aalen University follows the traditional calendar for European higher education:

Fall semester (Wintersemester):

  • Beginning of September to the end of February

Spring semester (Sommersemester):

  • Beginning of March to the end of July

Minimum GPA Requirement: 3.0

Full-Time Enrollment:

UMaine students must be registered for at least 24 ECTS credits each semester. Students are not encouraged to register for more than 30 ECTS credits each semester.

Exchange students are required to pay an immigration healthcare surcharge (IHS) when they apply for their student visa. Students must complete the payment and return to the immigration application in less than 30 minutes.

Students attending UEA for more than six months are eligible for free National Health Service (NHS) care, but students with pre-existing medical conditions may wish to obtain private health insurance, as well as students attending for less than six months. The UEA has a Medical Centre on campus.

Students can work up to 20 hours per week during term time if they are studying a full-time degree-level program. Students studying a full-time program below degree level can work up to 10 hours per week during term time. Outside of term time, students can work full-time, which is usually around 40 hours per week.

You must have a Tier 4 Student visa to work in the UK.

Exchange students stay at one of several residence halls affiliated with the university. The housing contract is for 6 months: September 1 through February 28 (fall semester) and March 1 through August 31 (spring semester). Space is limited so students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. A deposit may be required at the time of application. The International Office provides assistance in finding accommodations in private off-campus apartments.

Campus

Although Aalen is located in the economic center of the south of Germany, it has managed to keep its unique fusion of lively urban flair and picturesque rural scenery. Its rich history as well as its natural beauty have always managed to attract people to it. Before the Romans and Celts settled here, humans from the Neolithic period left their artifacts for us to discover.
