A Conversation with Rhiannon Giddens

September 23, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

On Saturday, September 23, the Collins Center for the Arts welcomes GRAMMY, Pulitzer Prize, and MacArthur “Genius” Grant winning performer Rhiannon Giddens to its stage–and that same day, at 1:00 pm in Donald P. Corbett 100 on the University of Maine campus, the Clement and Linda McGillicuddy Humanities Center is pleased to present, free and open to the public, Rhiannon Giddens in conversation with UMaine’s own Jack Burt.

Rhiannon Giddens has made a singular, iconic career out of stretching her brand of folk music, with its miles-deep historical roots and contemporary sensibilities, into just about every field imaginable. A two-time GRAMMY Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning singer and instrumentalist, MacArthur “Genius” grant recipient, and composer of opera, ballet, and film, Giddens has centered her work around the mission of lifting up people whose contributions to American musical history have previously been overlooked or erased, and advocating for a more accurate understanding of the country’s musical origins through art.

This afternoon event is free. At 8:00 pm on September 23, Giddens will take the stage of the Collins Center for the Arts. Tickets for that performance begin at $30, and are available from the Collins Center box office.
