Kaylyn Zipp is a PhD candidate and graduate research assistant in the Pelagic Fisheries Lab, advised by Dr. Walt Golet. Kay’s current research focuses on international management of highly migratory species, with a specific emphasis on movement ecology and multi-model-based inference. She utilizes interdisciplinary techniques to support stock structure analysis and spatial management. Outside of her work for the Pelagic Fisheries Lab, Kay has a broader background in science communication and policy engagement. She has collaborated with/for professional organizations, including the American Fisheries Society and the Wildlife Society, to communicate key scientific findings to policymakers and interest groups. Her community advocacy work extends beyond research to empower local voices in the fisheries sector. Her past experience includes roles as an aquatic research facility manager and multiple research technician positions, covering a broad range of research with a primary focus on regulatory monitoring, microplastic detection, riverine ecology, and long-term habitat and species monitoring.
