Description

I am a research assistant in the Brady Lab. I am primarily involved in field-based research including deployment and maintenance of the Land/Ocean Biogeochemical Observatory (LOBO) buoys, water-quality sampling, and habitat assessment surveys. I am a scientific diver (AAUS) and have experience in science communication, remote field work, logistics, and stakeholder engagement. I earned a bachelors of science in biology from Lamar University in Texas, where my undergraduate research took me to both South Africa and Mozambique. Through the dual-degree program in the School of Marine Sciences at the University of Maine, I earned a masters of science in marine biology and a masters of science in marine policy. My graduate work focused on the conservation and management of the soft-shell clam in Maine. I enjoy the complexity of marine ecosystems and the related management of marine resources. Early on in my studies, I learned that answering questions about the ocean requires a lot of input from people with diverse backgrounds. We need oceanographers, chemists, ecologists, and fishermen all talking together and sharing ideas in order to create more meaningful questions that lead to relevant results.
