Judith Rosenbaum-Andre

In her role as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Administration, Judith Rosenbaum serves as a professional resource for junior as well as tenured faculty and coordinates orientation activities for new faculty. She provides academic and professional guidance to chairs/directors and faculty on faculty-specific personnel processes and coordinates college representation on university-wide committees. Dr. Rosenbaum works with the dean’s office to best represent and advance CLAS interest across campus.
 
Dr. Rosenbaum currently also serves as the Chair of the Department of Communication and Journalism where she teaches as a Professor in the Media Studies Program. Her research is focused on understanding how people actively use media content in their daily lives and how this usage affects both individuals as well as society at large. Dr. Rosenbaum comes from a social scientific background and her research relies on a mixture of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Research projects are often collaborative in nature, and she works with other communication scholars as well as sociologists, psychologists, health experts, and members of the community to ensure her research best meets scholarly as well as community expectations and needs. Current research centers on three areas: the processes involved in the enjoyment and selection of media content; the how and why of digital media use; and media and information literacy. Her work has appeared in journals such as Communication Research, Media Psychology, Psychology of Popular Media Culture, Computers in Human Behavior, and Journal of Media Psychology. Dr. Rosenbaum has taught courses on the theoretical foundations of mass communication, quantitative and qualitative research methods, strategic communication, race, gender and the media, as well as several production courses. She currently teaches CMJ 100: Introduction to Media Studies, CMJ 203: Media Theories and Research Methods, CMJ 483: Capstone Seminar in Media Studies as well as CMJ 601: Seminar in Research Methods and CMJ 540: Social Media and Digital Culture.

Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Maine, Dr. Rosenbaum worked as an Associate Professor of Mass Communication at Albany State University in Albany, Georgia. Dr. Rosenbaum received her PhD in mass communication from the Radboud University Nijmegen in The Netherlands.
