Dan Bilodeau

The Mark and Marcia Bailey Professor of Speech and Theatre
School of Performing Arts

Dan is the Mark and Marcia Bailey Professor of Speech and Theatre and a past Chair of the Division of Theatre and Dance, teaching courses in theatrical design, scene painting, and dramatic lit. Since joining the faculty in 2008, he has collaborated on most of the plays produced by the School of Performing Arts and has been invited to collaborate at other educational institutions including the University of Rhode Island, Colby College, Providence College, Ohio Northern University, the University of Southern Maine, and Boston College.

As a professional scenic Designer, Dan has designed over 80 shows in theaters throughout the United States. His designs have been seen at the Custom Made Theatre Company, Penobscot Theatre Company, Portland Stage Company, The Lewiston Public Theatre, and The Gamm Theatre. He has designed more than thirty productions at The Theater at Monmouth, including fifteen of Shakespeare’s plays, and enjoys collaborating with directors and companies dedicated to reimagining classic and contemporary works for modern audiences. A highlight of his career was designing the scenery for Custom Made Theatre Company’s Off-Broadway premiere of Mother Night at 59E59.

His work has been recognized with a Broadway World Regional Award for Scenic Design and nominations from the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle and New Hampshire Theatre Awards.

Dan holds a BA in Theatre from Clark University and an MFA in Theatre Design from Brandeis University.
