Associate Professor of History
History

I am an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Maine at Augusta. My research centers on the Nazi Holocaust and the Second World War in Europe. I am also interested in the study of genocides and historical memory. In addition, I am an avid home cook, and I teach and research the history of food, cooking, and flavors. As part of UMA’s prison program, I teach at the Maine State Prison, and focus other areas of research on incarcerated populations. I am a graduate of Bowdoin College (Modern European History and German) and completed my MA at Goddard College and my Ph.D. at McGill University (Modern German History). I spent more than a decade as a high school social studies and German teacher in Maine and Vermont, and I directed the Carolyn and Leonard Miller Center for Holocaust Studies at the University of Vermont and the Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine before returning fulltime to the classroom.
