Welcome to Phillips

Phillips was first settled by a sea captain from Martha’s Vineyard named Perkins Allen in the late 1700s and incorporated as a town in 1812. The town thrived and grew thanks to its favorable soil for agriculture and great water power on the Sandy River for mills, and it became a center for Western Maine’s lumber industry. Nowadays, Phillips is known for its beautiful stretch of the Sandy River, lush forests, history, a wealth of outdoor activities, and relaxed rural lifestyle.
