SWE Awards
The Society of Women Engineers honors the contributions of women at all stages of their careers via awards that seek to recognize individuals and groups who support the core values of the Society: integrity, an inclusive environment, mutual support, professional excellence, and trust. The awards presented to SWE UMaine and its members are displayed below.
Fellow Grade Award
The SWE Fellow Grade award recognizes SWE members who have shown continuous service to the advancement of women in the engineering profession.
This award will be presented to Karen Horton in the fall of 2022.
Guiding Star Award
The WE Local Guiding Star Award recognizes exceptional collegiate leaders with at least 2 years of SWE membership at the end of the previous fiscal year who have made outstanding contributions to SWE, the engineering community, their campus, and the community.
This award was presented to Meagan Dube in the spring of 2022.
Rising Star Award
The WE Local Rising Star Award recognizes SWE collegiate members with less than 2 years of SWE membership at the end of the previous fiscal year who have made outstanding contributions to SWE, the engineering community, and their campuses.
This award was presented to Maddy Blair in the spring of 2021.
Professional Development Programs Award
The Professional Development Programs Award (Region F) recognizes SWE groups that plan and carry out high quality professional development events that help SWE members achieve their professional goals and aspire to professional success.
This award was presented to SWE UMaine in the spring of 2018.
Mission Award
This award was presented to SWE UMaine in 2017.
Outstanding Collegiate Section Award
The Silver Outstanding Collegiate Section Award recognizes SWE collegiate sections that have made outstanding contributions to SWE, the engineering community and their campuses.
This award was presented to SWE UMaine in 2016.
Outreach Programs Award
The WE Local Outreach Program Award (Region F) recognizes SWE groups that plan and carry out high quality outreach events that inspire young people to see engineering as a force for good.
This award was presented to SWE UMaine in the spring of 2016.
Best New Student Section
The Best New Student Section Award (Region I) recognizes new SWE collegiate sections that most exemplify SWE’s core values.
This award was presented to UMaine SWE in 1976.
Other Awards
Hamm Campus Activity Fund
SWE UMaine received funding from the Alton ’38 and Adelaide Hamm Campus Activity Fund for Mainely Steminism. The fund provides distributions for activities, projects and programs on the University of Maine campus.
This funding was presented to SWE UMaine in the spring of 2021.
Active Citizenship Award
The Active Citizenship Award is presented by the University of Maine’s Bodwell Center for Service and Volunteerism to a student or student organization that has dedicated many hours to volunteering, community service projects, or service to the University of Maine.
This award was presented to SWE UMaine for the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years.
