Teresa Barrows, LCSW
Teresa Barrows, LCSW, joined the faculty in the summer of 2023 following her retirement from her 30- year career in Social Work. Teresa is a U-Maine Alumni graduating with a BSW in 1992 and with an MSW in 1994.
Teresa’s generalist foundation in social work provided a strong foundation for her to be able to practice in a variety of settings. With children and families as her focus, she began in a community health setting as a Clinician, had a small private practice on the side, and worked as a therapist in a Psychiatric Hospital. She spent the last 23 years of her career working as a public servant for the state of Maine as Children’s Behavioral Health Director, and as a Supervisor and Public Service Program Manager overseeing the services for Children and Families in Maine.
Teresa was an Internship Instructor for Senior BSW students for many years and has always been committed to mentoring students and colleagues in the importance of relationships, integrity, and kindness. It is a natural fit for Teresa to have returned to her roots where she can utilize all her knowledge and openly share with her students.
Teresa teaches two sections of the on campus, SWK 395, Junior Internship Experience. Students engage in hands-on community service learning and are introduced to various social work topics throughout the year. Teresa uses her knowledge and experience to create a transparent community of learning within the classroom that includes guest lecturers, and small and large group discussions.
