Amy Frankel

Amy Frankel is a PhD candidate at the University of Maine, Orono, from which she also holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. She is also a licensed master of social work (LMSW) in the state of Maine. Amy earned a professional certificate in Restorative Justice at Vermont Law School as part of her doctoral studies. She previously studied English Literature, both as an undergrad and graduate student.

Restorative justice is an area of personal passion for Amy as both a scholar and an activist. Her work with individuals, families and communities has led to many insights about the legal system and the unmet needs of those impacted not only by incarceration but by social, economic, racial and environmental factors that frequently lead to arrest, conviction and sentencing and culminate in the complexity of post-release adjustment. Her doctoral studies build on existing scholarship, experience, and research in reentry, community reentry support and alternatives to incarceration.

Amy is engaged in community health promotion in Knox and Waldo counties through Penobscot Bay Community Health Partnerships. She is also actively involved with the Maine Reentry Network (MERN).

In the BSW program, Amy teaches SWK 491 Methods of Social Work Research.
