Fall 2024 – Summer 2025 Tuition Fees
University of Maine and University of Maine Machias Community:
Updates Concerning 2024-2025 Tuition and Fees
(07/08/2024)
In May, the Board of Trustees approved the University of Maine System Fiscal Year 25 operating budget. In the face of continued inflationary and enrollment challenges, the university was able to minimize the amount of tuition and fee increases by identifying efficiencies and one-time savings and by securing increased State funding for the System thanks to support from Governor Mills and the Legislature.
All University of Maine System institutions will be increasing tuition by 3% for in-state and out-of-state undergraduate students. This increase translates to a $12.00 per credit hour increase for in-state students at UMaine and $9.00 per credit hour for in-state students at UMaine Machias. We are increasing tuition for the UMaine MBA program by $71.00; we will not be increasing tuition for any other graduate program.
To address the needs of our students and faculty, we replaced the Technology Fee with the new Infrastructure and Technology fee. In addition to investing in instructional technology, we will invest these funds to support building maintenance and campus infrastructure. The Infrastructure and Technology fee will augment our efforts to secure additional funding from the state, federal government, and private donors.
For the upcoming academic year, we transitioned from a program-based differential tuition rate charged per semester to a course-based rate charged per credit hour. This change will ensure that our programs continue to meet the highest standards of academic excellence. This only impacts the programs that are most costly for the university to deliver, including nursing, business, and engineering.
UMaine remains one of the most affordable flagship universities in the northeast. When you include our tuition increases, our cost of attendance is approximately 33% less than the average of other New England flagships. We are committed to providing our constituents with an affordable and high quality university; with this in mind, our investments during the upcoming year will enhance the value of our students’ experiences and strengthen the University for the future.
Please know we remain dedicated to providing support to you and your families as you plan for the upcoming academic year. Should you have any questions or concerns about your student charges or financial aid, please call the Office of Student Financial Services at 207.581.1324 or email um.sfs@maine.edu for assistance.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and we look forward to seeing you soon.
