Grants 101: Seeking, Analyzing, and Proposal Writing Basics
This workshop will provide information and instruction on how to set-up and use Pivot- a funding opportunity database accessible across UMS- along with general strategies on reading funding calls and proposal writing. (Annually-fall and spring)

Finding Funding Challenge (asynchronous)
Each day, for five days, participants will receive an email with short, self-paced tasks designed to build grantsmanship skills. You will learn how to effectively and efficiently find funding opportunities tailored to your creative and scholarly interests, strategically read and respond to a funding call, and make your grant proposal a standout. (Annually-3rd Week of December)

Professional Development Series
Open to faculty, staff, and students across UMS (Zoom)

2nd Mondays of the month-October to April-with follow-on ORD consultations available to answer your questions, discuss how your scholarly pursuits align with the monthly highlighted funder(s), assistance in finding an open call, planning a submission, etc. Topics are subject to change, based on speaker and/or program officer availability.

Grants Academy-Cohort Experience

Grants Academy supports researchers from across UMS and Maine Maritime Academy in the process of writing a significant external grant proposal to fund their research, scholarship, and/or creative activity. Topics include: research/programmatic ideas’ mapping; finding funding opportunities and developing a funding plan; creating a project budget/justification; collaborative, transdisciplinary research and broader impacts; proposal writing tips; and more. Participants are nominated by their chair or dean, in the fall of each academic year; let them know of your interest.

EMPOWER Mentoring Experience: Enhancing Research, Education, and Career Pathways

EMPOWER supports tenure-track faculty at multiple stages of career development in their quest to achieve significant professional growth and advancement, including both research and scholarly activities. Applications for this year-long mentoring experience will be made available in April. This program is offered in partnership by the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost.
