New Faculty Orientation

New Faculty Orientation is a two-day event held in mid-August to welcome new faculty to UMaine, help them acclimate, and provide an opportunity to meet a range of academic leaders and fellow faculty. It features sessions on instructional technology, research, students, and more. The August 2026 program is available here.

New and Early Career Faculty Development Series

Meeting Times:

Weekly on Tuesdays at 3:00-4:00pm starting September 8th.

Description:

The Provost’s University Teaching Council has developed a semester-long program to explore essential topics related to success in your first year and beyond at UMaine, while building your community and networks across disciplines. Rotating topics will address aspects of evaluation, research, and teaching at UMaine, as well as the self-care critical to your success. We encourage all faculty hired within the last three years (2024-2026) to attend, as well—both to learn and to share your experiences!

Proposed topics are listed below but the final list will be informed by the interest and needs of the group.

Participation in the complete program (as you are able) is preferred. Registration is required. We can accommodate remote participants if needed.

Please email any questions to Jessica Miller, Director of Faculty Development, at jessica.miller@maine.edu.
