“A gala poetry reading will take place in honor of the life and work of Pulitzer Prize winning poet Edna St. Vincent Millay. The event will mark the poet’s 125th birthday and will feature poets Kathleen Ellis, Arielle Greenberg, Gary Lawless, Kristen Lindquist, Carl Little, Dave Morrison, Jennifer Moxley, and Elizabeth Tibbets, including Rockland’s current and former poet laureates, Joanna Hynd, Carol Bachofner, and Kendall Merriam, in addition to Maine’s poet laurate, Stuart Kestenbaum. A celebratory reception with refreshments will take place directly following.
Edna St. Vincent Millay was born in Rockland, Maine, on February 22, 1892, and her birthplace on Broadway has recently been purchased by the Rockland Historical Society. The program will include a brief presentation about the progress the renovation project. This gala poetry reading is a collaboration between the Millay House Committee of the Rockland Historical Society, the UMaine Humanities Center, and the Farnsworth Art Museum.
