
Nives Dal Bo-Wheeler – Director of the Office of Major Scholarships

Nives Dal Bo-Wheeler came to the University of Maine in 2008 with a background in linguistics and second language teaching pedagogy. She started working in the Modern Languages and Classics Department where she coordinated the Critical Languages Program and taught Italian and Second Language Teaching Methodology for Modern Languages and ESL. After developing curriculum and programs for the Critical Languages Program for five years, she started advising international students as a Student Success Manager.
In 2017 she was put in charge of the newly established Office of Major Scholarships and in 2019 started overseeing the research component of the Maine Top Scholars Program.
She is committed to student success and to the process of helping students reach their full academic and professional potential through research, scholarly inquiry and international experiences.
As an undergraduate student she was the recipient of a Erasmus Free Movers Scholarship to the Freie Univertität in Berlin and of an exchange scholarship to the University of California Santa Cruz.
Prior to coming to UMaine, she taught Italian language and culture at Brandeis University, Harvard University, and in the Stoneham (MA) Public Schools.
She speaks English, Italian, German and some French. She has lived in Cimetta (Italy), Munich, Venice, Berlin, Palo Alto, Perugia and Leiden.
