Provost’s Innovative and Creative Teaching Award

Introduction: 

The Provost’s Innovative and Creative Teaching Award is given to a graduate student who is an instructor for a course at UMaine and successfully uses innovative and creative teaching methods that brings the subject matter to life. This is an award given by the GSG to encourage and recognize graduate students who are passionate about teaching and have made an impact as an instructor.

Nomination: 

To apply, please complete the application form and provide a statement detailing their innovative and creative teaching  practices. A letter of support from a faculty member who can attest to your teaching prowess is also required and can be submitted here.

Your impact statement shall detail the following

  • Your motivation to teach
  • Creative techniques you have utilized to teach
  • The objective of such techniques and the problems it hoped to solve
  • The positive impact of such techniques ( you shall provide examples of student feedback, improvement in student grades, participation etc.)

Please make sure that your impact statement is uploaded as a PDF. Your statement shall follow the following guidelines

  • 12 point font size; Times New Roman
  • A minimum word limit of 250 and a maximum word limit of 500
  • The paragraph shall be single spaced or double spaced
  • Your full name, date and the award you are applying to, must be present on the page header
  • The PDF to be uploaded should be named as follows FirstName_LastName_AwardName

Selection process: 

The GSG Awards committee will work with the University of Maine Provost’s Office to review the applications and determine the award recipient. 

Your impact statement and the letter of support shall entirely be utilized to appraise your application.

Awards: 

$600, and a certificate will also be given

The awardee will be notified after selection and the award will be presented during The University of Maine Student Symposium Award ceremony on Friday, April 12th at 3:15 pm.

Deadline 

The application form will close on Friday, March 22th, 2024 at 5:00 pm.
