Hot Prices on Cool Products!
We are pleased to announce that the negotiated Freezer Program discounts are now available across the University of Maine System and are no longer limited to purchases made through the Freezer Program. Any individual within a unit who has purchasing authorization may place orders directly with participating vendors and receive the negotiated discounted pricing. Items can be ordered at the Departmental or Lab level, as appropriate, to avoid additional service fees.
Due to the rising costs of products and low and uncertain demand, we are unable to keep a stocked freezer on campus. Please allow 7-10 business days for order and delivery of tems.
Use the menu bar above to browse our vendors and see the lists of the discounted items. If you need an item that you do not see on the list of available products, please reach out to the vendor directly to receive a quote.
FY26 Changes – The CORE Freezer Program no longer places orders for Promega or BioRad as there are no cost-savings to be passed on to the end user. Items can be ordered from these vendors at the Departmental or Lab level as appropriate.
A 5% service fee is charges to all orders and is based on the pre-discount cost of the order.
Schedule: Effective 3/01/26, orders will be placed on Friday afternoons. Orders should be submitted through the iLab platform. The Freezer program is a service under the DNA Sequencing Lab and all information, including forms and chartfields, should be uploaded or input into iLab. Select the “Request Services” tab in the DNA Sequencing iLab site and then choose Freezer Program from the Service List. Ordering forms are inbedded in the iLab site.
The CORE Freezer Program will conclude at the end of FY26 (June 30, 2026). With the discontinuation of on-campus physical freezer inventory during COVID and the extension of preferred pricing across the University of Maine System, a dedicated part-time administrative position is no longer necessary to manage the program. To continue operating under the current structure, a $17 per-order service fee would need to be charged to individual purchasers. In many cases, this fee would exceed the total cost of the order, making continuation of the program financially impractical both to maintain and to use.
The CORE Freezer Program website will remain available through the end of the fiscal year and will provide guidance on obtaining quotes, contacting vendors, and placing orders. Additional Marketplace support and resources can be found on the UMS Procurement website.
Thank you for your for your understanding and for helping to ensure a smooth transition.
