Fraternity & Sorority Life
Fraternity and sorority life has existed at the University of Maine since 1874. The presence of fraternities and sororities is stronger than ever today with over 1100 students participating in one of the 18 men’s fraternities or 9 women’s sororities. Approximately 13% of University of Maine undergraduates are members of our Greek organizations.
Fraternities and sororities enhance the quality of student life at the University of Maine. Their commitment to the ideals of the social Greek-letter community promotes and provides for their members academic support, leadership development, avenues in which to develop life-long friendships, and opportunities to participate in service to the community. These community standards and efforts are an important contribution to the excellence of the University of Maine.
The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life strives to ensure the health and vitality of the University of Maine fraternity and sorority community. The Greeks’ actions, ideals, and service make a positive contribution to the University’s mission. To promote the ideals of the fraternity and sorority community the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life serves as a resource center for the community and focal point for all fraternity and sorority related activities and events.
