Job Title: MBS Ambassador

Pay: $14.65 / hour

General Description

MBS Ambassadors are student representatives of the Maine Business School who engage with prospective and current students, faculty, staff, alumni, Advisory Board members, and the community. Our Ambassadors are friendly and outgoing students excited to share their positive experiences at MBS and UMaine with others. Many of the events our MBS Ambassadors help with our recruitment events, so public speaking skills are paramount to this position. MBS Ambassadors report to the Marketing & Communications Manager at the Maine Business School.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent the Maine Business School at key recruitment events such as open houses, accepted student days, campus tours, new student orientation, or related events.
    • Provide information and guidance to prospective students, parents, and families.
  • Work on MBS events, professional development programs, and events at our Business Living Learning Community in Somerset Hall. 
  • Serve as student representatives on the Dean’s Student Advisory Board, acting as a liaison between the MBS student body and senior administrators within the College. 
  • Attend training sessions outside of class time to gain skills, experience, or other insights necessary to complete the duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements:

  • Be an MBS student.
  • All-day training on Sunday, January 25th.
  • A proven talent to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Be highly motivated to assist with and participate in events or projects.
  • May be required to travel as part of outreach programs.

Job Title: Peer Leader – Maine Business School

Pay: $1,500 Bridge Week Stipend, all meals included / $2,000 Semester Stipend paid bi-weekly

Time Commitment/Hours: 

  • Spring 2026: Weekly Training via MGT 290 
  • Summer 2026: 2-4 hours of training in early August conducted via Zoom. Bridge Week + Training August 19-29
  • Fall 2026: 6-8 hours per week 

Position Description: Peer Leader – Maine Business School

Responsibilities: Peer Leaders play a critical role in the Maine Business School’s First-Year Experience by serving as leaders, mentors, and academic guides in both MGT 101 and MGT 290, as well as during Business Bridge Week. Peer Leaders serve as leaders during Bridge Week, facilitating icebreakers, group activities, and programming. During the fall semester, Peer Leaders attend lectures and lead Friday cohort meetings where they lead students through their Research Learning Experience and fundamental first-year success skills.

  • Attend Lectures (2 hours/week):
    • Actively participate in assigned classes to gain a comprehensive understanding of the course content.
    • Assist students with questions during lectures and facilitate discussions as needed.
  • Lead Cohort Sessions (1 hour/week):
    • Conduct weekly cohort sessions to provide additional support, clarify concepts, and facilitate student group discussions.
    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment within the cohort.
  • Prep Session (2 hours/week):
    • Prepare for upcoming lectures and cohort sessions by reviewing course materials.
    • Collaborate with the faculty to ensure alignment with course objectives and expectations.
  • Summer Commitment (2-4 hours total):
    • Participate in minimal Zoom meetings during the summer to stay connected with the program and prepare for the upcoming academic year.
  • Bridge Week (August 19-29):
    • Mandatory training August 19, 20, 21
    • Mandatory Bridge Week work August 23-29
  • Course Requirements:
    • Enroll in a 1-credit-hour MGT 290 training course in Spring 2026
    • Actively engage in the course to enhance your knowledge and facilitate effective peer learning and mentorship.

Job Title: Peer Leader Coordinator – Maine Business School

Pay:
Spring 2026: $16.15 an hour
Fall 2026: $3,500 stipend 

Position Description: The Peer Leader Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for the Peer Leader team and acts as a liaison between the Peer Leaders, the Peer Leader Program Coordinator, and the MGT 101 Instructor. This leadership role supports the planning, training, and implementation of the Peer Leader Program and MGT 101 course, ensuring strong communication, organization, and execution of all program elements.

Spring 2026 Responsibilities: 

  • 30 minutes per week: Attend a weekly meeting with the Program Coordinator to prepare for MGT 290
  • 2-3 hours per week: Miscelaneous MGT 290 work
  • 1.5 hours per week: Participate in all Peer Leader MGT 290 class meetings

Summer Responsibilities:

May, June, July (3-5 hours per week):

  • Attend a weekly 1-hour meeting with the Program Coordinator and course Instructor.
  • Complete 2-3 hours of independent work each week to prepare materials and activities.
  • Design and develop the Semester Guidebook and Manual.
  • Assist with summer communications to the team of Peer Leaders.
  • Participate and help plan Peer Leader training sessions held during the summer to prepare for the upcoming academic year.

August:

  • Arrive in Orono by 08/10 for full-time work to prep for the course and Business Bridge Week.
  • Develop and test activities for fall programs to ensure readiness before implementation.
  • Collaborate with other Peer Leaders to finalize plans and assignments for the fall semester.
  • Attend any virtual or in-person planning meetings scheduled by the Program Coordinator.
  • Participate in Business Bridge Week planning and implementation.

Fall Semester (8-10 hours per week):

  • Meet one hour weekly with the Program Coordinator.
  • Attend weekly prep meetings.
  • Respond to questions related to class content, UMaine resources, and campus life.
  • Share opportunities and upcoming events on campus to keep students informed.
  • Build weekly quizzes within the LMS.
  • Lead prep-session activities that promote engagement and inclusion.
  • Provide contemporary context to course content to help students relate material to real-world scenarios.
  • Help oversee and design the annual Shark Tank Pitch Competition.
  • Set expectations and norms for class behavior and participation.
  • Track Peer Leader budgets and attendance.
  • Attend as many Friday cohorts as possible and try to clear Friday class schedules as much as possible.

General Expectations:

  • Meet one hour weekly with the Program Coordinator.
  • Attend weekly prep meetings.

Job Title: Student Success Center Front Desk Assistant

Pay: $15.10/hour

Time Commitment: Minimum Hours: 4 hours per week
Minimum Shift: 1.5 hours

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a cheerful and informative first point of contact for all students and guests at the Maine Business School (MBS) Student Success Center. 

Fall 2025 Objective: Hire and train new workers by the end of Fall 2025 to officially start Spring 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for all students and guests with a positive attitude.
  • Provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for students and guests.
  • Answer inquiries about MBS and other resources. 
  • Respond to student concerns as appropriate and/or refer the student to the professional staff.
  • Perform other general office support duties as needed.
  • Perform light-duty cleaning as directed.
  • Monitor the MBS email and phones.
  • Attend student staff meetings and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Title: Student Media Assistant

Pay: $14.65/hour

This role is responsible for planning and executing social media campaigns, creating marketing materials, and helping with event planning and coordination. The interns will work closely with our Marketing and Communications Manager to create engaging content and events that resonate with our target audiences and promote our brand. The ideal candidate should be a team player, have a solid understanding of social media marketing, be able to develop and implement effective campaigns to drive engagement and increase our following, and have an interest in event planning and management.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement marketing campaigns across various platforms.
  • Conceptualize and create videos for social media.
  • Work with the MBS team to create engaging content from a student perspective that aligns with our brand’s messaging and values.
  • Research and analyze social media trends to identify opportunities for engagement and growth.
  • Create visual assets that complement each campaign.
  • Help plan and execute various events.

This is a part-time position, with a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week, and will last for a minimum of one semester, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability. Job Title: First-Year Experience and Students in Transition Internship

Pay: Stipend dependant upon experience

Position Overview:

We are seeking dedicated and motivated student interns to contribute to the success of our First Year Experience, Students in Transition, New Student Orientation, and Business Bridge Week programs. This position will involve assisting in the development and implementation of various initiatives aimed at fostering student success and engagement within MBS. The role will require dynamic and proactive individuals who are passionate about student development and fostering a positive university experience for incoming students.

Responsibilities:

Spring Semester (5-12 hours/week):

  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Success and Recruitment and Faculty-In-Residence to plan and execute activities related to the First Year Experience program.
  • Assist in the development of resources and materials to support incoming students during their transition to university life.
  • Participate in the planning and organization of new student orientation and onboarding sessions and events for new students.
  • Provide support and guidance to first-year students as they navigate academic and social challenges.

Summer Semester (30-35 hours/week):

  • Assist with the coordination and execution of the Business Bridge Week and New Student Orientation, ensuring smooth operations and a seamless experience for participants.
  • Assist with the training and onboarding of new student workers joining the team for Business Bridge Week and New Student Orientation.
  • Assist in developing comprehensive resources for student development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure alignment with program goals and objectives.

Fall Semester (5-10 hours/week): 

  • FYE + Students in Transition Interns will have the opportunity to continue in a part-time position in the Fall 2025 pending Summer 2025 performance. 

Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Current enrollment as a student at the University of Maine, preference to MBS or COEHD students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and support diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment.

Preferred: 

  • Previous experience in student development or related fields is a plus.

Reporting Structure:

  • The student workers will report directly to Julia Van Steenberghe, Director of Student Success and Recruitment, and work collaboratively with the Executive Dean of the Maine Business School, Gateways to Success Coordinator, and Director of Marketing and Communications. 

Work Hours:

  • Spring Semester: 5-15 hours per week.
  • Summer Semester: 30-38 hours per week.

Job Title: Bloomberg Lab Monitor

Pay: 14.15/hour

The Lab Monitor oversees the proper use and care of the Gerard S. Cassidy ’80 Capital Markets Training Laboratory (DPC 113) during their assigned shift, as outlined below. In addition to the following assigned duties, the Lab Monitor may be responsible for additional duties as determined by their supervisor.

Responsibilities:

At the Start of Your Shift

  1. Arrive on time for the start of your shift.
  2. If you’re the first Lab Monitor working that day, ensure the functionality of all equipment, including computers, televisions, and printers. Review the previous day’s End of Shift Checklist completed by closing Lab Monitor to determine what issues might exist within the lab.
  3. If you are not the first Lab Monitor working that day, speak with the outgoing Lab Monitor about any lab-related issues that might be of concern. Review the Lab Monitor’s End of Shift Checklist to know what problems might exist within the lab.
  4. Make sure the door to the lab remains closed at the start of your shift.

During Your Shift

  1. Make sure the door to the lab remains closed during your shift.
  2. Ensure you are always in the lab throughout your shift, except in the case of emergencies or bathroom breaks. If a Lab Monitor is found to be routinely absent, they will be subject to corrective action and/or terminated.
  3. Ensure that any individuals present within the lab are there to use the terminals. If someone in the lab is not studying/working and is loitering, making noise, or using the lab for something other than its intended purpose, kindly ask that person to leave.
  4. Walk the lab room every fifteen minutes to ensure the individuals present use the terminals appropriately per the University’s Acceptable Use Policy. If an individual is found to be using a terminal for an unacceptable activity, kindly ask that person to leave.
  5. Enforce the NO FOOD OR DRINKS rules. However, do not engage in conflict with other students—report students to your supervisor. Water is allowed.
  6. Ensure that the television screens are either off or muted so as not to disturb individuals in the lab. Closed captioning (subtitles) should be enabled.

At the End of Your Shift

  1. Complete the End of Shift Checklist in each lab’s binder. This list includes logging off all unused terminals and verifying all equipment functions.
  2. If applicable, speak with the incoming Lab Monitor about any issues of concern so they may be aware. Share your End of Shift Checklist with that person.
  3. Please inform your supervisor if it is the end of your shift but not the end of the day and the incoming Lab Monitor is late or not coming.
  4. If you are the last Lab Monitor working that day, kindly ask all individuals to leave the lab. Then, turn off the lights and firmly close and lock the doors.
