Tom Kiffney
Tom Kiffney is a Post Doc student in the Brady lab working with shellfish aquaculture. His current research focuses on improving site selection for oyster, scallop, and mussel farms by linking high-resolution satellite data with growth models. He became interested in aquaculture after spending time on the Damariscotta River, the hub of oyster farming in Maine, through internships with the Darling Center, Bigelow Labs, and Mook Sea Farm. Tom graduated from Colby College in 2018 with a double major in biology and environmental science. After graduation, Tom spent a year at UNC’s Institute for Marine Science studying human pathogen dynamics within aquaculture oysters before returning to Maine in the summer of 2019. Outside the lab, he enjoys surfing, climbing, and skiing. Tom is originally from Portland Maine, and enjoys working and studying a sustainable industry in his home state.
