Dr. Daniel Puhlman—Director
Dr. Puhlman joined the University of Maine in August 2018 as an assistant professor of family studies. He graduated from the Florida State University in August 2013 with a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy. His expertise centers around coparenting and fathering and he has been foundational in understanding a family concept known as Maternal Gatekeeping. In addition, Dr. Puhlman’s training as a MFT is core to his work as a teacher, mentor and researcher.

Dr. Puhlman lives in Maine with his wife (Jane) and three sons (Max, Nathyn and Jack). He is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and is an avid Pittsburgh sports fan (Go Pens!). When not working in the lab Dr. Puhlman loves playing hockey, hiking, camping, home remodeling, skiing and most anything else outdoors.

Paige Allen—Undergraduate Researcher

Paige Allen is a rising senior Sociology major in the Honors College. She has minors in ethics & political philosophy, women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, and legal studies, and plans to apply to law school in the fall of 2023 to become a family attorney.

In the lab, Paige assists with various projects including work with KidsFirst, referencing for papers, and IRB’s and literature reviews for various projects. Currently, she is working on the KidsFirst project and her thesis. Paige’s honors thesis and McGillicuddy Humanities Center Project, “The Intersection of Ambitious Women & Parenting,” is advised by Dr. Puhlman and partnered with the lab.

Outside of the lab, Paige is involved with UMaine’s Student Government as their Vice President of Financial Affairs, the President of PreLaw Society, and is also a member of the Club Field Hockey team and All Maine Women. She enjoys spending time with friends, getting outside, and reading in her free time.
