Dr. Daniel Puhlman
Dr. Puhlman joined the University of Maine in August 2018 as an assistant professor of family studies. He graduated from the Florida State University in August 2013 with a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy. His expertise centers around coparenting and fathering and he has been foundational in understanding a family concept known as Maternal Gatekeeping. In addition, Dr. Puhlman’s training as a MFT is core to his work as a teacher, mentor and researcher.
Dr. Puhlman lives in Maine with his wife (Jane) and three sons (Max, Nathyn and Jack). He is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and is an avid Pittsburgh sports fan (Go Pens!). When not working in the lab Dr. Puhlman loves playing hockey, hiking, camping, home remodeling, skiing and most anything else outdoors.

Emma Richardson
Emma is a graduate research assistant who received her Bachelor’s of Child Development and Family Relations from UMaine in May of 2020. As the entrepreneurial lead, she has spoken with over fifty Maine parents and mental health professionals to gain a better understanding of their situations, successes, and struggles. Emma has also helped to facilitate the development of the app by networking with industry professionals from inside the university system and outside of the state. During the spring of 2021, she was both a Top Gun program finalist and placed third during the third season of the Greenlight Maine Collegiate Edition, both local opportunities which will help propel Co-Exist to market.
Outside of the classroom, Emma is a preschool teacher in Ellsworth who enjoys photography, discovering new music, and getting outside to bicycle and hike.
