Bear Hang
The easiest way to avoid attracting bears is to store your food, garbage, and any scented
items such as toothpaste, sunscreen, or hand sanitizer somewhere secure and out of reach.
A common solution is to hang a bear bag, which, despite the name, also helps keep
smaller animals like squirrels and raccoons from getting into your supplies.
How To Hang a Bear Bag:
1. Throw a rope over a branch at least 10 feet high
2. Attach a carabiner to the rope end of where the Bear Bag is going to be placed using a Figure 8 on a bight. Feed the other end of the rope through the carabiner.

3. Pull rope so the Bear Bag goes up. Tie a stick to the dangling rope with a clove hitch.

4. Slowly release the dangling rope. As you do, the stick will go upward and jam in the carabiner.

5. Loop the end of the rope around a tree using a trucker’s hitch
6. To retrieve your food, pull on the dangling end of the rope ans remove the jam stick. Then slowly release the rope so the food bag comes down.
