Absolutely No Digging Without a Digging Permit!

Power lines, telecommunication fiber optics, water lines, sewer lines and steam lines are buried underground throughout campus. Digging without proper permits may result in damage to underground infrastructure, and disruption in utility services to the campus. More importantly, unauthorized digging and contact with a power line could cause injury or death. A digging permit must be obtained from Facilities Management before a hole is dug, a stake driven, or the ground penetrated in any way.

To obtain a permit, contact Andy Brown at the FM Engineering Center at 207-581-1811 or e-mail UM.DigSafe@Maine.edu . Note: It takes a minimum of three to five working days to obtain a permit.
