Dezzelin Stanly Fernandez, RN, MSN

Dezzelin joined UMaine School of Nursing as a lecturer in 2024. She holds a BSN from Kerala University of Health Sciences, India (2014), and an MSN in Medical Surgical-Cardiothoracic and Vascular Nursing (2018). She started as a medical surgical nurse and later worked in the Emergency Department in the United Kingdom for more than a year.

Her professional interests include emergency nursing, transcultural nursing and understanding student learning styles. Through her extensive healthcare experience and working with people from around the world, she recognizes the significance of cross- cultural communication in building trust and improving outcomes. She focuses on including cultural awareness in teaching and practice to prepare future nurses for diverse patient care.
