Intensive English Institute Spring 2024

This spring, the University of Maine Intensive English Institute (IEI) hosted a group of students from Hirosaki University for the 24th consecutive year. The Hirosaki University students attended IEI classes for three weeks and intercultural activities, such as a day with educators and students at Orono elementary and middle schools, tours of Hudson Museum, Page Farm Museum, and Advance Structure and Composites Center at UMaine. A day at  Acadia National Park, and a weekend trip to Boston, MA. The students presented Japanese culture and food to community members at the Japanese Cultural Exhibition held in the UMaine Collins Center of the Arts on Feb 24, 2024. The students also participated in an English conversation partner exchange where each Hirosaki student was paired up with a UMaine student from the Japanese Language Club. Students practiced English and Japanese twice a week in the afternoons.
