Jonathan Holmes, LCSW
What has been your most embarrassing moment (that you are willing to share)?:
In my role as a youth counselor, I was once challenged to a foot race by a client and shortly after the race began I began to lose my balance. I knew I would wipe out onto the ground and to avoid scraping myself up, I dove forward and promptly knocked the air out of myself and entertained the crowd of people laughing at me. Especially when I realized that I couldn’t fly!
What is your favorite food?: My favorite food is all food, though I greatly appreciate authentic cuisine from many different locations and cultures. I enjoy BBQ, burritos, biryanis, and bulgogi, the spicier the better!
Favorite quotes: “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” CS Lewis
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom.” Viktor E Frankl
If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?: I have a couple of destinations that I would choose, which are traveling to the Canary Islands and visiting Sao Paulo, Brasil. Friends of mine from my college experience reside there and it would be amazing to visit them where they live!
Role in the center: As a licensed counselor I may take on many roles to support client’s on their journey towards growth and change. I value self-determination and supporting clients with learning new coping strategies, gaining perspective, and increasing their awareness about how to empower oneself. My clinical experience has included providing Trauma Informed CBT, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, mindfulness and de-escalation, and crisis intervention. I value identifying personal strengths that can motivate one to accept challenges in life with confidence!
Professional Credentials and Interests: Bachelor of Social Work degree in 1998 from Castleton State College, and a Master of Social Work degree in 2004 from the University of Denver. During my graduate studies I completed 3 credits at the University of Maine and then attended the University of Denver during the same academic year in which both schools met in the NCAA Hockey Championship game! I enjoy sports, gardening, cooking, reading, and various outdoor activities.
