The University of Maine Equestrian Team consists of both a club and a show team that competes in the IHSA circuit every college year. As a show team, we compete in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association in Zone 1, Region 2. IHSA currently offers six different levels of Hunt Seat Equitation and Hunter Over Fences Equitation including in Walk-Trot through Open Jumping. We accept riders of all riding levels and disciplines. The team uses our coach’s horses in order to improve horse handling, riding, and knowledge. There are no tryouts for the team; however, incoming members undergo a riding evaluation to determine their knowledge and skill level.
Lessons are held weekly, and carpooling is arranged to get the barn for your lesson time. The Equestrian Team has much to offer athletes in playing an active role in the University of Maine campus and local community. As a show team, it is crucial to fund-raise and attend every meeting, and taking lessons before shows are required. Our team has sent riders in recent years to Regional and Zones! Evaluation rides will be held at the start of every semester, and we encourage any and all to try out! We are always looking to expand our roster! As of Fall of 2025, we have 25 active members!
As a club, we offer each member lessons and plenty of time with horses. Whatever you are interested in learning about horses we can make it happen for you. Also, many of our show team members first start out as club members and then transition into the show team. The team is what you make of it and we are more than happy to help you achieve those goals.

The weekly lessons are built around your schedule!
