Sammi Smith

Sammi Smith is a Master’s student in the Brady Lab where she is researching new
technology in the seaweed aquaculture industry. Sammi earned her bachelor’s degree
in environmental science from Skidmore College in 2021. After graduating, she studied
alpine ecosystems in the White Mountains as a naturalist for the Appalachian Mountain
Club. Sammi’s interests moved seaward when she moved to Maine and began studying
the range expansion of the Atlantic blue crab at the Wells National Estuarine Research
Reserve. Since joining the Brady Lab in 2025, she has been researching a kelp seeding
machine from Korea that reduces outplanting time and optimizes seeding. When not
thinking about seaweed, Sammi enjoys hiking, skiing, and playing frisbee.
