Jason Brough
Jason Brough is a Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nation Tribal Member. Jason received his Bachelor of Science in Anthropology with a Minor in Environmental Studies from Utah State University. During his time at USU Jason served as the Native American Student Council (NASC) President and served on the council for several years in other capacities. With the help of the Indigenous students, NASC became an integral part of bringing awareness of the issues facing Indigenous Nations to Utah State University and to the local communities. Currently, Jason is the proud Apa of two children who constantly make him smile. He is also achieving his lifelong goal of obtaining a PhD through the University of Maine’s Anthropology and Environmental Policy Program. Jason serves on the Daigwade Internal Advisory Board and works for the Wabanaki Youth in Science program and the Penobscot Nation Traditional Ecological Knowledge program through Maine EPSCoR. Newe culture and identity mean everything to Jason. Without the Elders, and without the community Indigenous peoples bring to the world, Jason’s path would have been lost a long time ago. He will forever remember/honor the Elders who taught him and helped cement his identity as Newe. It is for them and for the future generations that Jason serves The People in whatever capacity he can. Currently Jason is exploring the concept of edge-walking in working with Indigenous archaeological material both with his Nation, with Wabanaki communities, and non-Indigenous entities. He is heavily invested in Indigenous sovereignty and with decolonizing methodologies.
