Toronto born Hayden Desser, professionally known as Hayden, returns with his new album, Are We Good. The album is dedicated to relationships and self-definition, demonstrating folksy instrumentals and hard-hitting vocals. For fans of The National and Andy Shauf, Hayden’s Are We Good checks off all the boxes.

THE HEARD EYE, FUNKALYPSE
Initially started as a COVID project, The Heard Eye formed to create Funkalypse. Funkalypse is an arrangement of unique tracks compiled by Paul Schneider and long-time friend Atma Anur, along with guitarist Annes De Kassian. The collection is full of jazz and funk tunes that have been passed through quite a few musicians to reach the final impressive product.

SCOTT MCMICKEN AND THE EVER-EXPANDING, SHABANGNew Music Friday 4/7/23 Album covers
Longtime member of the music scene Scott McMicken assembled an impressive collection of people and songs on his new record, Shabang. The former Dr. Dog member explored many different genres throughout the thirteen songs, utilizing folk, jazz, country, and bossa nova elements. Overall, Shabang is a lively and spirited album that deserves high praises.

ORACLE SISTERS, HYDRANISM

The Paris-based trio Oracle Sisters hit the ground running with their debut album, Hydranism. The eleven-track record discusses a world frozen in time during the pandemic, combining delicate and intimate lyrics with folk and pop instrumentals, and an extremely unique sound.


BARRIE, 5K
Blissful shoegazing backed by catchy, thumping basslines, Barrie marks her return in 2023 shimmering a bit more light and hope compared to her 2022 album, Barbara. With 5K, Barrie highlights her attention to detail throughout each track, utilizing samples and exploring new realms of music.

THE NATURAL LINES, THE NATURAL LINES
A subtle, yet significant return, the artist formally known as Matt Pond PA has returned to the alt/indie scene in 2023 with his new project, The Natural Lines. Serving as the result of a new worldly perspective by the musician, Pond’s work on this album is undeniably intimate and personal, setting a new pace for himself as he continues with The Natural Lines project.
