Support

Thank You

The UMaine Scientific Diving Program wishes to express our gratitude to everyone who has supported our work. Your contributions provide assistance for our diving scientists and students and help enable underwater science. In addition to assistance provided from within the University,  Aqua Diving Academy and Halcyon Manufacturing, Inc. have been key program partners in building our equipment fleet.

Our Challenge

The UMaine Scientific Diving Program annual budget is supported by the School of Marine Sciences and the Risk and Safety Management Department. This base budget meets the yearly maintenance and upkeep costs associated with dive equipment, trailer and compressor maintenance, consumables (mask defog, snorkel keepers, zipties, etc.), and general maintenance of the Dive Locker. Despite the long-standing support of these departments, the UMSDP struggles to meet increasing operation costs and increased diver training demands. We want to do more, but we need to buy more equipment to achieve those goals.

You can Help

We are actively working to identify new and creative ways of serving our student and researcher needs. And we need your help to get there.

The Office of University Development has established a gift account to receive contributions made on behalf of UMaine divers. Any funds donated by alumni or friends of the program will be used exclusively to acquire scuba equipment to assist UMaine students and scientists who wish to conduct underwater research. If you are interested in contributing to the UMaine Scientific Diving Program, please contact Diving Safety Officer, Colby Johns (colby.johns@maine.edu), or donate online through the UMaine Foundation website (Donate Now).

If you would like to make a donation to specifically support the John H. Dearborn Scientific Diving Scholarship, please use this link to the UMaine Foundation website.
