T. Scott Marzilli, Ph.D.

T. Scott Marzilli is the Senior Associate Provost for Student Success and Innovation at the University of Maine, where he leads campus-wide and system-aligned efforts to enhance student success, retention, and the development of innovative, learner-centered academic support strategies. Since joining UMaine in February 2023, he has helped advance institution-wide initiatives focused on early alerts, gateway course success, experiential learning, and the integration of emerging technologies to support student achievement, contributing to record retention gains. His work centers on building scalable, data-informed systems that expand access to high-impact learning experiences for all students.

Marzilli brings more than two decades of higher education leadership experience focused on student success, advising, and academic innovation. Prior to UMaine, he served as dean of University College and chief student success officer, and later as special assistant to the president for student success at the University of Houston Downtown. He previously held multiple leadership roles at the University of Texas at Tyler, including Assistant Vice President for Academic Innovation and Student Success and Interim Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences, and Chair of the Department of Health and Kinesiology, where he played a key role in building institutional infrastructure to support student persistence and completion. 

He began his academic career at the University of West Florida, where he coordinated the biomechanics and motor skill laboratory and advanced to associate professor with a specialization in motor behavior. Marzilli holds a Ph.D. in movement science from Florida State University, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education and kinesiology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
