For the last 40 years, The American Chestnut Foundation has been committed to restoring the chestnut after it was tragically decimated by a fungal blight. Mark McCollough, President of the Maine Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation, will explain why restoring a blight-tolerant American chestnut is essential to the ecology and resilience of our eastern forest. Come to learn what is happening in Maine (literally in your backyards in Orono!), to bring back the American chestnut. Mark will bring some special American chestnuts (5 for $10) to start on your windowsill so you can join in the effort to restore America’s “Perfect Tree.”
