Eva Quirion, Ph.D., APRN, FNP-C
Dr. Eva Quirion, NP, PhD is a graduate of The University of Maine, Orono, and the University of Phoenix. She joined an interventional pain practice after receiving her FNP certification. She then joined St. Joseph Healthcare in 2014 as a Pain Care provider embedded in primary care. Eva’s clinical practice includes working side by side with primary care providers in order to help people living with chronic pain by providing sustainable, evidence-based care. She has become an expert at tapering chronic controlled substances with compassion due to the necessity to move away from high risk prescribing and move toward helping patients achieve meaningful functional improvements. The discovery of undiagnosed substance use disorder led Eva to work with the St. Joseph’s MOUD team. At this time, the St. Joseph recovery team manages about 400 patients who are on buprenorphine for substance use disorder with about 150 of those on injectable XR buprenorphine.
Dr. Quirion serves as faculty at The University of Maine Family Nurse Practitioner program educating future generations of FNPs for the state of Maine. She is also expert faculty for the Michigan Center for Clinical Systems Improvement, providing pain and addiction care education to health providers in the state of Michigan for several years now. Lastly, she serves as faculty for the Co-Occurring Collaborative serving Maine and has given talks for the Maine Prescription Monitoring Program, Maine Nurse Practitioner Program, and the Northeast Node of the National Institute for Drug Abuse Clinical Trials Network (CTN-NE).
Dr. Quirion has been an active member of the Controlled Substance Stewardship (CSS) program now through The Schmidt Institute since 2015. The CSS program provides chart review and guidance services to medical practices interested in improving the thoughtful and appropriate use of controlled medications. She is also an active member of the CTN-NE advisory board.
Eva’s greatest joys are her husband, two daughters, and granddaughter. She enjoys flower gardening and back yard bird watching.
