About
The Maine Center for Genetics in the Environment brings together researchers from across multiple disciplines at the University of Maine and invites participation from research and educational institutions across Maine and beyond. The center was founded in 2019 as part of the sustainability and statewide-impact objectives of the $20 million NSF EPSCoR RII Track 1 project Molecule to Ecosystem: Environmental DNA as a Nexus of Coastal Ecosystem Sustainability for Maine (Maine-eDNA), and includes the University of Maine eDNA Service Center.
Goals
- Energize Maine’s environmental genetics research community by promoting effective collaborations and new partnerships for transdisciplinary research, innovation and training.
- Grow environmental genetics capacity through inclusion of new researchers, industries, institutions, and communities that lack or have limited access to this powerful technology.
- Increase the impact of environmental genetics through creation and delivery of genetics-based technologies to Maine communities and beyond.
- Realize sustainability through the pursuit of funding and other resources for research, infrastructure, and training.
